Ahmedabad: The Wagh Bakri Tea Group, a reputable name in the tea sector for more than 132 years, has partnered with Utkarsh Trust to introduce a groundbreaking initiative focused on empowering women and adolescent girls through awareness of reproductive health and livelihood opportunities. This initiative, inaugurated at the primary school in Palodia, Ahmedabad, on Wednesday, signifies the start of a dedicated and long-term effort to tackle important issues such as nutrition, menstrual hygiene, and women’s empowerment.
The initiative targets two main areas. Firstly, it aims to raise awareness about nutrition and menstrual hygiene for women and adolescent girls. Secondly, it seeks to create livelihood opportunities by providing training in snack-making, empowering women to achieve financial independence.The event, honored by the presence of Malvi Desai, Director of Wagh Bakri Tea Group, along with other distinguished guests, brought together mothers and teenage girls. They could take advantage of health check-ups, awareness initiatives, and nutritional education.
In discussing the initiative, Ms. Desai stated, “As a responsible business, Wagh Bakri Tea Group has consistently aimed to give back to society and foster significant change. This initiative tackles important health challenges while also providing rural women with the skills needed for financial independence. We believe that this initiative will greatly empower the women beneficiaries and inspire other women and young girls to strive for financial autonomy.”
The Wagh Bakri Foundation has backed the initiative with a financial contribution of Rs. 3.24 lakh, demonstrating its dedication to sustainable community development and fostering societal change. Utkarsh Trust, a Wagh Bakri Tea Group partner in this initiative, is dedicated to the comprehensive development of women and children. The trust focuses on communities that have not reaped the benefits of development. It empowers women by forming self-help groups, promoting menstrual health, and raising awareness about menstrual hygiene through its informative booklet, ‘Mugdha.’
