The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) in Ahmedabad, recognized as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India, held its 23rd Convocation for Academic Programs on June 19, 2024. During the ceremony, diplomas and fellowships were presented to 78 students, which included 74 postgraduate diplomas and 4 management fellows. The event was graced by Shri Ashishkumar Chauhan, the MD & CEO of the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), who served as the Chief Guest. Shri Ashishkumar awarded academic medals to the graduates and delivered the convocation speech.
Dr. Sunil Shukla, Director General of EDII, welcomed the Hon’ble Chief Guest and other guests. The event was presided over by EDII President, Shri Rakesh Sharma, MD & CEO, of IDBI Bank Ltd. Other attendees included Shri Anindya Sundar Paul from State Bank of India, Dr. Milind Kamble from the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Shri Anil Bhardwaj from FISME, and Dr. O.P. Goel from NSDC.
Esteemed Chief Guest, Shri Ashishkumar Chauhan, extended his congratulations to the graduating students, emphasizing the vast opportunities available to them in the present time. Encouraging them to be proactive, he remarked, “Today, India ranks as the 5th largest economy, the 4th largest Capital Market, and the 3rd Largest Startup hub worldwide. Entrepreneurship embodies a mindset that welcomes challenges, values creativity, and aims to have a positive impact on society. It will serve as a driving force for India to achieve the vision of a developed Bharat as envisioned by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji. I applaud the students for choosing a path in entrepreneurship and wish them success in all their future endeavors.” The Chief Guest concluded by advising the students to set high standards and adapt to evolving trends.

Presently, we observe frequent discussions, brainstorming sessions, and seminars across academic platforms focusing on entrepreneurship development, enhancing MSMEs, and fostering startups and innovations. Dr. Sunil Shukla, the Director General of EDII, discussed the origins of EDII and its dedication to fostering entrepreneurship for over four decades. Dr. Shukla highlighted that EDII has been actively involved in promoting entrepreneurship, research, policy advocacy, innovation, skill development, SME growth, livelihood enhancement, inclusivity, and business incubation. Collaborating with government ministries, state governments, developmental and multilateral agencies, as well as prominent corporations, EDII’s projects have visibly contributed to skills enhancement, establishment of businesses, revenue generation, and job creation, thereby strengthening entrepreneurship throughout India. By leveraging its expertise and experience, EDII has successfully expanded its reach nationally and internationally, introducing unique models to promote entrepreneurship in various regions.
